Heads Up at the Island in the Sky

Cebu has more to offer than just beaches when it comes to vacation spots. Just like in the Alps (without the snow, of course), there are a number of cool resorts that offers you that much needed rest from the hustle and bustle of city life. Just because these resorts are in the highlands does not mean that they lack the tranquility that you can find in the beaches. On the contrary, the bliss you experience in Cebu’s mountain resorts is the epitome of peace and quiet.

One of these establishments a humble resort aptly named Island in the Sky since it is located way up in the mountains of Balamban, Cebu. It is easy to get there; just take a Balamban-bound V-hire from the Ayala Center Cebu PUJ Terminal, and tell the driver to drop you off at the gate of the resort.  The fare is around P100 (I think slight increase is now in effect).

The entrance rates are posted on the gate (which needs a new coat of paint). Adults pay P50 per head while kids, P25 per head. If you want to rent a cottage for a picnic, you need to pay P250—still very affordable.

A cemented pathway leads you to the welcome sign, which, like the gate, needs a fresh coat of paint and a more creative artist.

These steps lead up the resort compound. This is a great way to exercise your cardiovascular system and your leg muscles. Trails branch off from these steps, heading to the different parts of the resort.

Beautiful pine trees dot the area.

Along the way, you will pass through this cute hanging bridge. Cross, if you dare! Hehehe…actually it is very safe.

Here are a few of the open cottages which you can rent for only P250.

Cool flowers! Are they upside down? Or right side up?

There is a small restaurant nearby (a deli, actually) where you can fuel up after an arduous trekking trip.

The view is to die for.

Here’s a model of the entire resort.

If you want some peace and quiet, you need to visit Island in the Sky now. However, it would be prudent for the resort’s management to upgrade their facilities and improve their façade.
